Report of The Joint Committee On The Conduct of The War, 1863, First Edition in good condition. Very minimal wear to the covers, with volume two showing a light tear in the cover (see pic). Edges are lightly bumped. Bindings on all three volumes are solid. Volume two has a slight crack to the front pastedown, NOT the binding (see pic). The front pastedown is simply a blank sheet of paper pasted to the inside of the cover and the other side of it is the blank page you see before the actual title page. It is this pastedown page that has cracked maybe two and a half inches in length. Again, the hinge is fine, just the paper has cracked where the cover bends.
Interior is in good condition with no writing or dog eared pages note (I flipped through all three volumes). Pages are browned in varying degrees, but all text is easily readable and nothing is obscured. The set appears to have been a presentation piece that was never read, and ended up in storage before I got it some 30 years ago.

Filled with eyewitness accounts of key battles, scouting reports, troop movements, important correspondence, explanations for actions taken or not taken on the field of battle and personal opinions of fellow officers leadership and conduct. Includes testimony of numerous Generals, Admirals, Colonels and other key officers in command. Not an inquisition by the Congress accusing its leaders of wrongdoing, but rather an inquiry into current goings on to better understand how the Union was faring. Its 1863 and there's no cell phone or video feedback giving instant replay. If you want information, you have to get it in person, so this is a live update from the people right in the thick of it! Think about it - it's the middle of the war; things were very much touch and go and nobody knew which way it was going to turn out, that decision was still years ahead!! This is an awesome historical account printed while the Civil War was actually happening and it doesn't get more authentic than this!
